Duo Lakes, Yukon Territory, a classic start to a legendary canoe or raft trip. A short portage from here brings us to the river where we begin the canoe trip. On the raft trips we rendezvous here with a helicopter. We then sling the rafts, gear and fly ourselves, further down river to where the channel is deep enough to begin with the rafts.
We take a few hours to practice our canoe skills on Duo Lake.
Wading the canoes down the first bit of the Snake River - are you sure we are on the right river?
After a few hours of wading, the channel becomes deeper and ''there's no looking back''! On our raft trip, this is where the helicopter deposits us.
This is aufice. Sheets of ice are formed in the winter by springs that don't freeze and continue to flow. The layers of ice build up, creating a mini glacier that lasts into the summer.
Occasionally we pull over to scout rapids ahead.
Paddler's paradise!
It just keeps getting better! And so does the scenery!
The river boasts tremendous hikes and the trekkers are rewarded with panoramic vistas. [Snake River, Yukon, hiking] 10 - c41 Snake River camp. In the land of the midnight sun!
The hikes are diverse and spectacular.
Bring plenty of film. Wildflowers and wildlife abound!
Class II - III whitewater action is steady…
Never a dull moment…
Keep your eyes on the river!
Canyons add excitement to the mix.
Mountain whitewater!
The mountain vistas are ever changing. A ''must do'' for every wilderness whitewater paddler! Canoe or raft.
