 A spectacular five day Yukon canoeing adventure from Rose and Lasawa Lakes to the Takhini River! Winging into the mountains on a scenic float plane flight through the ranges surrounding Whitehorse, we land on Rose Lake beneath Primrose Mountain in the Boundary Ranges. This valley has one of the largest populations of Dall Sheep and a good number of Mountain Caribou. After canoeing Rose Lake, we will be met by our float plane and shuttled over Primrose River Gorge. Landing on Kusawa Lake, you will camp on an idylic bay with a sandy beach. Paddling down Kusawa Lake, we canoe our way to the Takhini River for our final day with a taste of whitewater for those who want it. Additional Takhini River Trip Notes:The following is a tentative itinerary and has been designed with much thought to capitalize on the most scenic and exciting parts of the trip, while making time on other sections. You guides will adjust the schedule to make the best use of water and weather conditions. The following initials indicate the meals included each day:Breakfast = B | Lunch = L | Dinner = D Day 0
Your journey north from your home will be a refreshing departure. You will fly over the largest expanse of wilderness in the world with stunning views on cloudless days, pass through quieter and friendlier airports, meet friendlier and less harried service personnel and generally begin to immerse yourself in the wilderness experience that is about to unfold. The scheduled flights arrive in Whitehorse throughout the day. Aim to arrive by 6 p.m. The guides will be making final preparations. Please make your way to your hotel and plan to rendezvous with your guides in the lobby of the Westmark Klondike Inn at 8 p.m. for an orientation meeting. There will be a chance for last-minute questions concerning clothing, gear, packing and other details.Whitehorse is a great place to spend a few extra days and there are local day hikes, gold panning float trips through Miles Canyon and 4X4 outings in the region. Day 1 (L/D) ALPINE FLIGHT
We will meet in the hotel lobby at 8 am following breakfast (not covered) and we will depart for the float plane base. You want to be sure to have your camera out with plenty of film! We begin with a stunning flight into picturesque Rose Lake, an alpine beauty, hanging in a long mountain valley. Watching for Dall sheep and caribou in the surrounding peaks, we begin canoeing along the picturesque shores of the lake. Your guide will provide instruction to develop the necessary canoe skills. Paddling toward the outlet of the lake, we work on canoe skills and enjoy the sights. Any fishers in the group can wet lines in search of trout and grayling. The resident bald eagles will keep close watch. Camp will be located with spectacular views of the valley. After supper we can relax and take-in the majestic scenery or hike on the surrounding mountain slopes. There is time for both – beneath the midnight sun! Day 2 (B/L/D) MOUNTAIN LAKES
After breaking camp we will continue our route down Rose Lake. Hard to believe, but the scenery just keeps getting better. Late in the day, the float plane will return and we will load up to fly over the rugged Primrose Canyon, through which the lake water tumbles into Kusawa Lake. Landing on Kusawa Lake, in one of the many beautiful bays, we will set up camp. Day 3 (B/L/D) YUKON SPLENDOR
With the glacial carved valley of Kusawa Lake stretching out in front of us, we will paddle or possibly even sail our way down the lake. The surrounding mountain ranges and sheltered bays make for a beautiful day on the lake. Camp will be near the mouth of the Takhini River. Day 4 (B/L) RIVER RUN
Now on the Takhini River, we will work on river canoe skills. This clear stream is known for grayling and the grand scenery continues. We will refine our river skills in the eddies as we progress. A final fun rapid (optional) will greet us at our lunch spot. After a riverside lunch we will drive back to Whitehorse to check into our hotel with time to enjoy a Yukon evening. Following showers, the group may want to gather at a local eating establishment (not included). Whitehorse is a lively town and it will not be difficult to find a way to enjoy the evening! Day 5 HOMEWARD BOUND
After good byes and a last look around Whitehorse, we will head for home with a cargo of fond and spectacular memories. | |  |  |  |
