Growing up on Vancouver Island, I knew nothing of whitewater and rafting, however we spent many weekends in a canoe exploring lakes and areas of the North Island as a family. My first introduction to whitewater came during a 3 month stay at a mountaineering school in the Canadian Rockies with a company called Yamnuska. That lead to a 2 month excursion to Nepal and my first rafting trip, a 5 day on the Kali Gandaki river. This followed by another five day trip on the Jarbridge/ Bruneau rivers in Idaho. Now I was addicted.
This lead to the start of a guiding career that allowed me to work across Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, Scotland, England, Honduras, India, Morocco, Turkey, and Chile before for finding my way to the North.
During the winters I work in Health Care at St Joesph’s in the Comox Valley, teach whitewater kayaking to COLT students, work for SD 69 on there outdoor programs with rafting and Kayaking Instruction. Also with the winter rains I find the time to Whitewater Kayak and Raft the rivers of Vancouver Island with a variety of friends.
I look forward to more good times and adventures in the North.
