One of the most common questions we get asked is “Why should I book a Canadian Geographic Expedition?” or “What makes the Parks Canada Firth Expedition special?”
Each of our expeditions grant the opportunity to immerse yourself in some of the planet’s last remaining wilderness, every year we offer a few custom expeditions which offer the chance to dive a little deeper into these unique landscapes.
However, if you are particularly fascinated by the ecology, geology or history of our rivers, one of our specialized expeditions could be just the trip to sate your curiosity for the Wild North!
Royal Canadian Geographical Society (Canadian Geographic) Expeditions
The Royal Canadian Geographical Society (RCGS) was founded in 1929 to foster a greater understanding of Canada’s geography among Canadians. Its magazine, Canadian Geographic, strives to uncover lesser known stories of Canada’s nature, history and people.
Each year we host RCGS Ambassadors, hand picked by the Society for their dedication to the geographical field. They have professional backgrounds from a variety of disciplines and provide exciting, additional insight along with our expert guide team.
This year, we are thrilled to host Liz Beatty on the Nahanni, and David Gray on our Taseko raft expedition!
Liz is an award-winning writer and broadcaster, who hosts and produces Can Geo’s podcast Here and Now. She firmly believes that travel makes us better global citizens, and that it should uplift both the people and places we visit.
She will be joining us on our Nahanni 12 day raft expedition, July 27 – August 12, 2025.
David is a journalist with over 30 years’ experience documenting stories from across Canada and the world. His ‘plodcast’ Graydio Canada features walking interviews with “fascinating people in amazing places”. Born as a lockdown project, it is the mouthpiece to David’s belief that as Canadians, we don’t hear enough that there is more that connects us than separates us.
David will be joining us on our Taseko-Chilko-Chilcotin rafting expedition, August 23 – 31, 2025.
Parks Canada Expeditions
Though well known among Canadians, travellers from abroad may not be so familiar with this organisation. Founded in 1911, Parks Canada exists to protect nationally significant examples of Canada’s natural and cultural heritage, and to foster their greater understanding and appreciation among the public.
Every year, we host a Firth River Rafting With Researchers Expedition in collaboration with Parks Canada. Guests are joined by two Inuvialuit interpreters and two Parks Canada scientists who together bring invaluable insight into the history, geology and ecology of the Firth River and its surrounding landscapes.
As well as in-depth interpretation and the chance to connect with local interpreters and scientists, guests will have the opportunity to partake in a variety of studies. Depending on the year and need they can include raptor surveys, water quality monitoring and benthic surveys.
This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for those wanting to scratch the surface of this jewel of the Arctic!
Our 2025 expedition is set for July 14 – 28.
