This winter I will be hanging out in the prairies and returning to my job as a soil sampler for Farmers Edge. Also, I am looking forward to some cross country skiing and all the other fun activities winter has to offer and of course will be dreaming about being on the river next summer!!
I can’t believe another summer in the north has already come and gone. It was an amazing season out on the rivers, with great guests and spectacular views. I am already excited to go back next year! This fall I am back in the prairies, keeping busy with harvest and cattle work on the farm, plus the occasional paddle down the river. This winter I will be working with a sustainable agriculture company and can’t wait to get out on the ski trails and lace up my skates for hockey!
The first trip I did with NRA/CRE was in 2012. I got the opportunity to canoe in the Yukon on the Wind River. The beautiful scenery, pristine water and a great group of people confirmed and strengthened my love for the North. This summer (2013) I got the chance to guide on and see the stunning Nahanni River for the first time. University has also provided me with many opportunities to be in North, such as dog sledding near the Hoarfrost River and paddling through Pike’s Portage and down the east arm of Great Slave Lake. I have just recently completed a degree in Outdoor Education from the U of A, Augustana. My first guiding job was at Augustana working with local youth and Rotary International Students, which I have done for the past 4 summers.
This fall I plan on working in Saskatchewan, on the farm for harvest and potentially for the winter as well. Also, after the guiding season I enjoyed a trip with fellow NRA guides, Emily Cole, Mitch McCambly and Emily Carty on the Churchill River in Northern Saskatchewan.
